Creating a WhatsApp Business Account

This topic explains how to create a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) for your organization on the Meta Business Suite.

To create a WhatsApp Business Account, your organization must have a Meta Business Account.

  1. Navigate to https://business.facebook.com/

  2. Do one of the following:

    • If your organization already has a Meta Business Account, sign in and select your portfolio, if available.

    • If your organization does not have a Meta Business Account, create a business portfolio so you can create a WhatsApp Business Account for your organization. See Creating Your Organization's WhatsApp Business Account.

Creating Your Organization’s WhatsApp Business Account

  1. In the Create your business portfolio in Business Manager window, enter the following details:

    • Your organization’s business name and account name.

    • Your name.

    • Your business email address.

  2. Click Submit.

    The business portfolio is created, and a confirmation link is sent to the business email address you provided.

  3. Click Done.

  4. Open the email received from Facebook and click Confirm Now.

    You are redirected to the Meta login page.

  5. Click Log in with Facebook.

  6. Enter your business email and password.

  7. Click Log in.

    You are redirected to your the Settings page of your business portfolio.

  8. In the Accounts section, click WhatsApp accounts.

  9. In the WhatsApp accounts page, click Add.

  10. In the resulting dropdown menu, click Create a new WhatsApp Business account.

    The Create a WhatsApp Business account window appears. You must enter additional information to complete your account.

  11. In the Details section:

    1. Click Change WhatsApp profile image to add a suitable image for your business.

    2. From the Category drop-down, select a category that describes your business.

    3. (Optional) Click Show more options to enter additional details about your business.

    4. Click Continue.

  12. In the Phone number section, select the phone number you would like to use for your WhatsApp Business Account.

    • Select Use a display name only to use the phone number you provided while creating your business portfolio. When you select this option, people you engage with will only see a display name in the chat and not your phone number.

      Note

      Before you can begin messaging, your business and display name will be reviewed by Meta. These reviews can take up to five working days. You will receive an email once the reviews have been completed.

    • Select Add a new number to use a different phone number.

      1. Select your country code and enter a phone number.

      2. Choose how you would like to verify your phone number. You can verify either by text message or phone call.

  13. Click Continue.

    Note

    If you select Add a new number, you must complete the phone number verification by entering the verification code sent on the phone number.

    You have successfully created a WhatsApp Business Account.

  14. Click Finish.

    Your organization’s WhatsApp Business Account is listed in the WhatsApp accounts page on your business portfolio.

    Note

    The Account Status is updated when the final status is received from Meta.

  15. Connect your organization's phone number and add a payment method.

Connecting Your Organization’s Phone Number

If your organization’s WhatsApp Business Account does not have a phone number, connect a phone number to be able to send and respond to messages.

  1. In your WhatsApp accounts page, scroll down to the bottom and click WhatsApp Manager.

    You are redirected to the Phone numbers page.

  2. Click Add phone number.

  3. In the Business profile section:

    1. Enter your WhatsApp business display name.

    2. Select the Category.

    3. Add an optional description.

    4. Click Next.

  4. In the Add phone number section:

    1. Select your country code.

    2. Enter your phone number.

    3. Click Next.

  5. Enter the verification code received on your phone number.

The new phone number is added to the phone number list in WhatsApp Business Manager. A certificate for this phone number is provided based on your current account status:

  • If your business is verified, your display name is ready and the certificate is available for download immediately.

  • If your business isn't verified, your phone number will be pending in review. Once approved, you'll see a View button. You can click it to see the available certificate for the phone number.

Adding a Payment Method

The WhatsApp Business Platform uses a per-message pricing model. Your business is charged for each template message that starts a conversation session.

You can add a credit card to your WhatsApp Business Account. This payment method is available only in supported countries.

To add a payment method:

  1. In your WhatsApp accounts page, scroll down to the bottom and click Payment settings.

    You are redirected to the Billings & Payments page.

  2. In the Payment methods section, click Add payment method.

  3. In the Add payment information window, select Debit or credit card.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Enter your credit card details and click Save.
