Applicable to End Users

A group can include up to 255 members, including you. A group can include internal contacts only, or internal and external contacts. For more information about groups with external contacts, see Creating Mixed Groups.

Creating a Group

To create a group:

  1. Tap the New chat icon. The New Message screen appears.

  2. Tap New Group.

  3. Select the contacts that you want to add to the group. Internal contacts display the label Int next to their names. Contacts who are not eligible appear dimmed, and you cannot select them.
The selected contacts appear under Group members, together with the number of selected members. To find a contact, enter the name in the search box. To remove a contact, tap the contact again, or tap x next to the name under Group members.

  4. Tap the > icon. The icon is available after you select at least one contact.

  5. Enter the group name. The screen lists the selected members, with external members above internal members.

  6. (Optional) To add a group picture, tap the group picture icon, and then select an image.

  7. Tap the icon to create the group. The group opens, and you can send messages to the group.

Note

You can add up to 254 members, because you are also a member of the group. If you select five or more members, the Group members list is collapsed. Tap Expand list to view every selected member, or tap Collapse list to hide the list.

Starting a Group Chat from a One-to-One Chat

You can create a group from an existing one-to-one chat. The contact from the one-to-one chat is added to the new group.

To start a group chat from a one-to-one chat:

  1. Open the one-to-one chat.

  2. Tap the More options icon (⋮), and then tap Start a group chat. The group creation screen opens, and the contact from the one-to-one chat is already selected.

  3. Complete steps 3 to 7 in Creating a Group.

Note

The Start a group chat option is available for chats with internal contacts and with external contacts who have a US, Canada (+1), or UK (+44) phone number.
