Sending Logs When the App Crashes

Applicable to End Users

If Android Capture crashes before you can send logs to Smarsh support, perform the following steps sequentially on your computer and phone:

Activate Developer Mode on Mobile Phone

On your Android device:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Tap About Phone > Software Information.

  3. Tap the build number until you see the notification "Developer mode has been turned on".

  4. Navigate back to Settings.

  5. Tap Developer Options.

  6. Turn On USB Debugging.

  7. Tap OK to allow USB debugging.

  8. Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable and kill all other mobile apps to reduce redundant logs.

Install the Android Debug Bridge on your Windows Computer

On your Windows computer:

  1. Download the platform tools for windows ZIP file.

  2. Extract the contents of the zip file.

  3. Right-click in the extracted folder and click Open PowerShell window here.

    The following window opens:

  4. Type ./adb devices and press Enter.

  5. Type ./adb.exe and press Enter.

  6. Type ./adb logcat > log.txt and press Enter.

Reproduce Crash and Send the Logs

  1. On your Android device:

    1. Launch Android Capture on the phone.

    2. Reproduce the crash scenario.

  2. On your Windows computer, you will find a text file called log.

  3. Send the file to Smarsh support.
