Managing Contact Permissions

Prev Next

Capture Mobile requires access to your device's Contacts (Address Book) to display and manage your contacts within the app. This article describes the behavior when Contacts permissions are missing or limited and explains how to enable them.

About Contacts Permissions

To access local contacts (personal contacts from your mobile phone) and use contacts-related features in Capture Mobile, the app must have permission to access your device's Contacts. When Contacts permissions are completely missing, certain features will be unavailable until you grant the permission.

Permission notifications appear in relevant areas of the app to alert you that a feature reuires Contacts access and provide a direct link to enable it.

When Permissions Are Missing

When Contacts permissions are turned off, the following notifications appear:

Contacts Screen

A notification displays on the main Contacts screen indicating that access to your contacts is turned off. Select the notification link to open device settings and enable Contacts permissions.

Adding a New Contact

When you attempt to add a new contact without the required Contacts permission, a message appears indicating that Contacts access is required. Select Settings in the message to open your device's Contacts permission settings, then enable Contacts access for the app.

Compose Screen - TO Field

In the Compose screen, a notification appears below the To field when Contacts permissions are disabled. Select turned off in the notification to open your device's settings, then enable Contacts permissions for the app.

Chats Screen - Search

In the Chats screen, the Contacts permission notification appears only while you are searching. The notification does not appear in the default Chats view. Select turned off in the notification to open your device's settings, then enable Contacts permissions for the app.

iOS: Limited Permissions

On iOS devices, your Contacts permissions may be set to Limited, which restricts the app's access to a subset of your contacts.

Adding Contacts with Limited Permissions

When Contacts permissions are set to limited, you can still add new contacts in the app. New contacts are automatically added to your device's limited contacts list, making them available in Capture Mobile.

Limited Permissions Notification

When permissions are limited, the notification text changes to the following:

Note: Access to your contacts is limited.

Select Limited in the notification to open your device's settings to change the Contacts permission level or grant the app full access to your contacts.

Enabling Contacts Permissions

To enable Contacts permissions in Capture Mobile:

  1. Select any turned off or limited link in the app notification.

Your device's CM Permissions settings are displayed.

  2. Find the Contacts permission and enable it (or adjust it from Limited Access to Full Access on iOS).

  3. Return to Capture Mobile. The notification disappears.
