Enabling Native Call Recording in Samsung Android Devices with a CSC Change

If you own a Samsung Android device in the United States and are unable to capture native call recording using Android Capture, you may need to flash your mobile device's ROM with a version identified with a non-US Country Specific Code (CSC). Flashing refers to the process of installing a new software, mostly Operating System, on your mobile device. This topic describes the procedure to modify the CSC of your Samsung Android device.

Know Before You Begin

  • You must have sufficient technical understanding to make a system flash hack to change your phone’s CSC.

  • All information on your Samsung Android device will be deleted as part of this process. Ensure that you have a backup of all required data from your device.

  • Ensure that you are aware of and are acting in accordance with the local rules and regulations. For example, in some states of the United States, you need two-party consent to record calls.

  • Smarsh has tested the process to change the CSC on Samsung Galaxy Exynos S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, S10e, S10, and S10+ devices.

Tools Required

  • Samsung Android device with Android 11 or One Ui 3.0 or later

  • Personal Computer (PC)

  • USB cable to connect your Samsung mobile device and the PC

  • Odin firmware

  • Sanfw firmware

Modifying the CSC

To modify the CSC of your Samsung Android device:

  1. Download Odin Firmware

    On your PC, download and extract the latest version of Odin firmware from here.

  2. Note Model Number
    1. On your Samsung Android device, tap Settings > About Phone > Model Information.

    2. Make a note of the full model number of your device. This is essential to download the correct firmware for your device.

  3. Enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging
    1. On your Samsung Android device, tap Settings > About Phone > Software Information.
       

    2. Tap Build Number seven times.
      The following indication is displayed on the tapping counter:

    3. When, you see the indication for Developer mode, return to the Settings screen.

    4. Scroll down in the Settings screen and tap the newly created Developer options menu.

    5. Toggle ON the USB debugging and OEM unlocking options.

  4. Retrieve Application Processor Information
    1. Open the mobile device's dialer app and enter *#1234#
      A screen with your device's CSC information is displayed.

    2. Make a note of the information in the AP section.

  5. Download Samsung Firmware
    1. On your PC, open Samsung Firmware Download.

    2. In the search bar, enter your device's module number obtained in Step 2.

    3. In the Type country or CSC code search bar, enter one of the following acronyms:

      • THL - Thailand

      • IND - India

      • BKD - Bangladesh

    4. Search the AP number obtained in Step 4.

    5. Click the version that matches the AP number.

    6. Click Download SamFw Server.

    7. Close the resulting pop-up window and click Download.

    8. Extract the downloaded CSC files.
      You should now see both the CSC and Odin folders on your PC.

  6. Updating the Firmware
    1. On your PC, open the Odin software.

    2. Restart your mobile device in one of the following ways:

      • Hold the volume up and down buttons on your device for about five seconds and tap Restart.

      • Hold the power and volume down buttons for about five seconds and tap Restart.

    3. Before your mobile device boots back up, connect the mobile device to your PC with the USB cable.
      Once your device restarts, the following menu is displayed:

    4. On the Odin software, drag and drop files from the CSC folder as shown below:

    5. When all the files load, click Start.
      After the process is complete, you mobile device reboots.
      Your device now has a new firmware and is starting as a new blank device.

    6. Follow the basic steps to set up a new Android device such as selecting the language, setting up the Wi-Fi, logging into a Google account, and so on.

  7. Ensure CSC and Firmware Work Properly
    1. On your Samsung Android device, open the native dialer app.

    2. Tap the  icon.

    3. Tap Settings > Record Calls.

    4. Toggle Auto records calls to ON.

  8. Confirm Successful Flashing
    1. Open the native dialer app.

    2. Enter #1234#
      A screen with your CSC code appears. The CSC code must match the CSC present for the firmware build that you downloaded in Step 5.

You have successfully modified the CSC of your Samsung Android device. You can now install and activate Android Capture with native call recording.
